About Somatheeram Ayurveda Village

Somatheeram Ayurveda Village is a multi-award winning authentic and traditional Ayurveda Hospital with a resort ambience set in beautiful tropical gardens and in a prime beachfront location in Kerala, South India. Here you can benefit from traditional Ayurvedic therapies and yoga practices in a blissfully peaceful environment.  Ayurveda is the soul and essence of Somatheeram, which has been providing Ayurvedic treatments the traditional way for more than 30 years and has rightfully earned the name ‘The Ayurveda People’. Ayurveda literally means the science of life (Ayur = Life, Veda = Science).

Hotel Facilities

Embrace the peaceful location with afternoon strolls on the beach or relax by the pool. If you prefer to be more active there are boating activities, elephant rides and indoor games. Yoga and meditation classes take place throughout the day on the open-air yoga platform or in the indoor yoga room. After dinner, immerse yourself in the cultural arts of Kerala with evening entertainment of various dance and music performance.

Wellness Facilities

There are 24 treatment rooms dedicated to the Ayurvedic treatments and the resort has its own herb garden onsite for producing its own medicine. Your programme will be confirmed on your arrival once your dosha (body type) has been determined with a personalised diet and daily treatments such as massages, medical oils, herbs, and enemas or laxatives.

Dining

The sea facing diet restaurant serves Ayurvedic and multi-cuisine specialities, where you can listen to the sound of the waves whilst dining on the outdoor terrace. While your diet will be tailored to your dosha, the Ayurvedic diet is typically vegetarian with fresh ingredients.

Good to Know

Somatheeram is the world’s first Ayurveda hospital set in a resort and is not your typical holiday destination. It is best suiited for someone looking for an serious and authentic healing Ayurveda experience rather than a spa holiday.

Somatheeram is located on the west coast of Kerala on Chowara Beach surrounded by 15 acres of greenery and just 9km from the famous Kovalam beach.

What People Say About Somatheeram Ayurveda Village

I must say it was a delightful place. All the staff were more than happy to help, the room was lovely and clean and the treatments were great . No fancy music or calm relaxing European style treatments you can hear cars, dogs, and people talking the wind and the rain but they were authentic and effective and delivered with skill and kindness . The food was lovely even on my restricted non spicy diet and served in a lovely restaurant all open and cool breezes coming up off the sea. The hotel is set in lush gardens on the side of a hill lots of steps up but as you’re never in a rush not a  problem. You can also take the clock tower lift to the hotel below if you don’t fancy climbing up to the restaurant. Went out the local shops on my own and felt completely safe. Took a couple of trips as well. All in all a wonderful experience.
