Baobab Suites is an all-suite hotel set on a hilltop in the prestigious Costa Adeje offering fantastic views of the town and the mountains. Located in the south of Tenerife, the island is well known for its sunny blue skies and boasts temperatures between 20 – 28 degrees all year round, making it an ideal destination for anyone looking for some winter sun without the long haul travel. Just a 4-hour flight away from the UK, Baobab Suites is just a 15-minute drive away from Tenerife South airport where most international flights come in.
The Hotel
The hotel is minimalist, sleek and modern in design and is set in a residential area in Adeje. The hotel is a 15-minute downhill walk to the restaurants, cafes, shops and boutiques and Playa del Duque, argued to be the best beach in the south; its hilltop location means it was a steep 25-minute walk back up. During the day, the hotel offers complimentary taxi vouchers to go to the beach or a taxi is just 5 euros for those who would prefer not to walk.
The Suites
I stayed in the Divinity Lago which was a bright and spacious suite with a very comfortable king-size bed, living area, bathroom with a walk-in shower and bath and a kitchen fitted with all mod-cons. My roomy balcony had a jacuzzi, which was cleaned daily, a large table and chairs where I enjoyed breakfast most mornings and a comfortable day bed for sunbathing. My suite looked over the main pool and I could see that other suites had their own swimming pools which seemed especially popular with families.
All 125 suites have spacious balconies or terraces and fully equipped kitchens, ideal for those not wanting to eat out all the time with the supermarket just a 10-minute walk away from the hotel. There’s a Nespresso machine and washing machine in the suite so I would recommend bringing your own coffee pods and tablets for your stay. Some suites have the option to upgrade to side sea views, a jacuzzi or private pool or all of these! The balconies are made of glass so don’t offer complete privacy but are great for those wanting their own space on holiday.
Having so much space and the kitchen in the suite really made it feel like a home away from home. Its tranquil setting made it a perfect spot to unwind although this might not suit those wanting to be in the midst of the action.
The Food
There were several options for breakfast, one being the breakfast box which you could choose the night before for it to be delivered to your suite in the morning at your preferred time. This was filled with breads, cheeses, meats, milk, yoghurt, juice, fruit and coffee pods for the in-suite Nespresso machine and there were often leftovers for me to pop into the fridge and snack on throughout the day. There was also the option to go to Fuel restaurant in the sports centre or BB Lounge Club which offered healthy a la carte options overlooking the pools and the sea. Due to covid, the breakfast buffet wasn’t available, but it was nice to be able to have some a la carte options without feeling too stuffed before starting the day. For those looking for a fine dining experience, Sucas restaurant hosts a Michelin star with a tasting menu to delight the senses.
The Wellness Facilities
The Activate Sports Club is a paradise for fitness lovers with a vast range of group classes throughout the week, apart from Sundays, such as core, cycling, TRX and pole dancing for guests. For those looking for a more focused experience, the sports club offers reformer, mat and aerial Pilates and yoga programmes and private swimming and running lessons. There is also a rock-climbing wall and padel tennis courts where you can improve your technique with a private instructor. Its private beach area offers a relaxed vibe where you can enjoy a smoothie from the Fuel Restobar.
For those looking to indulge in relaxation and rejuvenation, the Nirama Wellness Centre offers a range of Ayurvedic and Western treatments and therapies to nourish the mind, body and soul.
